This musical skill can, thanks to the abundance of concert venues, institutions and memorial sites, be intensely experienced here, and is both kept alive and continually developed through a great variety of activities.
The Vereinigte Bühnen Wien have, by arrangement with the City of Vienna, taken the jubilee celebration of the "200th Anniversary of the Theater an der Wien" as an opportunity to set up a "Walk of Fame" of classical music - the MUSIC MILE VIENNA (Musik Meile Wien).
The idea of the MUSIC MILE VIENNA is to create an awareness of the many possibilities of experiencing this city as a metropolis of classical music. The MUSIC MILE VIENNA is not intended to be a substitute, but a starting point and stimulus to completely "dive into" Vienna as a musical experience.""

The most outstanding conductors, musicians, singers and others who play an important role in the world of classical music, and who are connected to Vienna, are each, in due course, to be immortalized in a memorial star set into the pavement.
The MUSIC MILE VIENNA leads from the Theater an der Wien over the Linke Wienzeile, past the Musikverein, the Wiener Staatsoper and the Haus der Musik, and via the Kärntner Straße to the Stephansplatz.

The MUSIC MILE VIENNA is considered as "work in progress". At the inauguration in 2001 70 musicians were initially commemorated with a "star". The circle will be enlarged by between three and five other great names in classical music each year.
The decision on whom to include in the Music Mile Vienna is reached by an international selection committee, currently composed of 26 experts with a profound knowledge of the classical music scene. The members of the selection committee nominate candidates and make the selection.
